While I continuously clain this isn’t a main stream gaming site, a game like the cannot be ignored, now I’ve been watching the pre-rendered trailers today and was reading the comments, where a lot of people were saying the Xbox version will suck as it is weaker console, so I felt I should do a little post on my opinion about this – and first things first, I have used both consoles extensivly.

PS3 – Pros
Blu-Ray disks = Lots of storage so game on 1 Disk
Cons
You can’t physically can’t spin a blu-ray disk fast enough to get any use out of the extra space.
Xbox – Pros
Can read game of the disk without saving it to the console
Cons
Game will be on multiple disks.
You may notice that I haven’t listed the individual machines CPU specs etc, this is becuase they are basically the same the only difference is the brand of stuff inside – so in reality neither machine is stronger. The only difference is that the PS3 doubles as a blu-ray player.
So does it matter which console you buy this on – no of course not – the machines are effectivly the same and lets be honest the console war only exsists because most people can only afford one of them. So my first point to defend this opinions is that the pre-rendered graphics are a lot better than what the actual graphics will be and as a result both are going to look the same, maybe the PS3 cut-scenes will look a bit better but those are only a small part of the game. (if the xbox version was on 1 disk)
Point 2 – I don’t believe the Xbox version will only be on one disk, so therefore the graphics will be exactly the same and who cares how many disks there are, you are gonna get a good few days play out of each disk, then you only have to change it when you need the next part of the story, it takes about 2 minutes to boot a game on the 360 probably the length of cut-scene so live with it.

So flame me if you like I’m getting this on the 360 as while if the graphics are good, great, however for me growing up in the age of the NES and Sega Megadrive it’s the storyline that makes the game for me, it can be as pretty as you like however if the story is not interesting and immersive I won’t play it or rather won’t play it for long – e.g. Final Fantasy 12.

I don’t think the game itself for the 360 will be multi-disc, but it will definitely be down-sized to work for the 360. The PS3 has yet to use any games that required or fully use the Blu-Ray disc storage and does require one to install it onto the hard drive before actually playing it. How I see it is this
PS3: Optimized version of FFXIII.
360: Will be compressed onto a single DVD (I mind you 360 games are on DVD9) with the graphics being downsized and/or will require players to install game-data to the hard drive to play.
Of course, it is way too early to even be thinking about it considering SquareEnix has been pretty slow at pumping FFXIII updates and with only a POSSIBLE release date in December 9th of next year for the PS3 version. Oh well, either way I definitely am looking forward to it.

PS3. No question.

Stated somewhere in the internet that the PS3 ver will come with original Japanese voice, and the 360 wont. The same as last remnant.

I don’t think Square Enix would make that mistake, after all the opinion of them has gone up with Xbox owners because of them doing this so I doubt they would put it on one disc and screw everybody over, if they do then it may be time for me to invest in a PS3 as well.
@ron
That’s a shame, but that is something people can live with, if that is what we have to loose to get more fancy graphics on less discs.
Maybe I’ll email ye ol’ Enix and see if they will tell me if it’s gonna be multi-disk for the 360
I really can’t see Square-Enix doing a mutli-disc game for the 360, but I can’t say since I haven’t actually researched any of the previous 360 games published by Square.
I do see them downsizing the game not only to make it one disc, but also due to hardware limitations, but as I said before, we’ll find out when it’s released.

What are these mystical hardware limitations, i’ve never experienced them.
If we are talking about the 360, its the same stuff inside bar the blu-ray player, which actually causes more trouble as a computer can’t read it fast enough to make any use of the extra 10GB space, it only appears more powerful because you install sections of the game to the HDD which allows the CPU to read it quicker and therefore cope and not just burn out.
As for Square doing a multi-disc game I haven’t seen one yet, however Lost Odyssey was on four discs as it didn’t fit onto one and that was a fairly successful game.
I’m talking about graphical output mainly. From my understanding, the PS3 has greater graphical display power than a 360, but of course this is all completely irrelevant considering graphics do not generally make a game good, rather it is only for the use of eye-candy.
As for installing to the HDD, it does not mean it runs faster. They promote it as such, but not necessarily. Not to mention Microsoft has started the whole “install to HDD” idea.
Regardless, the game itself-however it is released-will be good…hopefully whether it be multi-disc, downsized or what-not.

“As for installing to the HDD, it does not mean it runs faster”
This is actually true, the CPU can read more quickly from a HDD as it spins a few thousand maybe even a few million times faster than a disc.
and for graphical difference, I personally couldn’t see the difference running both on a Sony 32″ HD tv at 1080p using the same HDMI cable and then comparing with using the Component Cable for each console, I couldn’t see anything that different on either, actually tell a lie – the difference was that the PS3 version had removed a lot of the background that on the Xbox version of COD, stuff in the far distance was gone – and then the freed up space was allocated to foreground graphics.
