I recently started watching Bakemonogatari and in a nutshell it is a very interesting anime, in a surreal multi-coloured kinda way.
Plot – Courtesy of wikipedia
Bakemonogatari centers on Koyomi Araragi, a third year high school student who is almost human again after briefly becoming a vampire. One day, a classmate named Hitagi Senjōgahara, who infamously never talks to anyone, falls down the stairs into Koyomi’s arms. He discovers that Hitagi weighs next to nothing, in defiance of physics. After being threatened by her, Koyomi offers his help, and introduces her to Meme Oshino, a middle-aged homeless man who helped him stop being a vampire.
The series tends to introduce only one new heroine per chapter, each involved with a different “apparition”. The events of the previous chapters play an important role in the subsequent ones. The series primarily focuses on conversations between characters; it contains a fair number of parodies of other series, as well as Nisio Isin’s trademark word play and metahumor.
Likes:
Art Style: The best part about this anime is the art style, the blending of 3D and 2D elements is almost flawless, I also like how they make shots visually interesting even when what’s actually happening amounts to watching paint dry.
Characters: The characters all seem well developed even in just the 3 eps I have actually watched, although I do wish they could be a bit more open emotionally. Though Senjougahara is lethal with a stapler and for some reason I find that kinda cool.
Dislikes:
Sound: I should clarify here, I mean the random jingles are nice and all and do a good job in setting the mood, this is probably just personal preference but I prefer it when the background music is practically unnoticeable.
In short I would recommend picking this up, I am still wondering where this is going in terms of story line, like Araragi becoming a vampire again or something.

Meh, you sort of put off the sounds after a while. The depth of the anime is what gets you.
YAY, tbh I have already started to zone them out, but when I re-watched the first couple episodes to write this I made sure to pay attention to everything :p
its nice IMO, as well as its character development I guess (as of ep5).

Just finished episode 14 and, of course, my first thought was “I do so hate waiting for the final episode of a good series.” If the lack of subtlety in the background music is the only dislike one finds in a series, I’d say that makes for a near perfect series.
Personally, I found I watch and read stories to have my emotions moved and stirred. Background music aids a story to that end and is one of the things I relish and savor. It’s one of the things that will cause me to watch an episode, or even a particular scene, over and over. When dialogue, movement, and music work together it’s like a feast; that when finished the taste lingers on the palate and the memory of the moment stays, favorably, on the mind and in the heart.
The only real complaint I have with the series relates to the chosen style of quickly flashing to colored panels of text. I understand the purpose but still found it distracting and detracted from moments that would otherwise have been perfect… just my opinion, though.
Now we wait for the fifteenth episode to see how things are resolved.
